I talk alot about making extra money and how to make extra money here at creating that LUX Lifestyle. I do this because I truly believe that learning about the ways to make extra money and making extra income can change a person’s life. After all, making extra money changed my life!

I talk a lot about how to make extra money here at Creating That LUX Lifestyle and for good reason. Learning how to bring in additional income is one of the most powerful tools you can use to transform your finances and your life.
Why am I so passionate about this? Because making extra money changed everything for me.
A couple of years ago, I was running a home beauty salon and life felt manageable. That is, until the cost of living crisis rolled in like a slow wave. First, our mortgage’s fixed rate expired. Then groceries crept up. Power bills. Credit card interest. It felt like every week brought another “just letting you know your rates are increasing” email.
At first, we could handle it—we were prepared. But then clients started postponing appointments or canceling altogether. Our monthly buffer started shrinking. Our savings took hit after hit. That dream overseas holiday? It began to feel impossible. I remember looking at our bank account and realizing… we had re-saved the same $15,000 twice in one year, just to survive. Gosh that sentence still hits home.
That’s when everything shifted. I discovered the world of side hustles and online income. I started learning how people—ordinary families like mine—were creating multiple income streams, and suddenly, the lightbulb turned on.
And here’s what I realized:
Earning extra money gives you options. Options bring freedom. Freedom brings peace. Freedom is stressfree
Making extra money can help you:
- Pay off debt faster
- Save for a dream holiday (and actually take it!)
- Stop living paycheck to paycheck
- Build real wealth and reach financial independence sooner
- Escape job stress or reduce your hours
- Create a more secure and flexible life for your family
- Secure your future, your retirement
Whether you have just one free hour a day, or you’re ready to dive into a full-on side business, there are so many ways to earn more—without burning out.
If you’ve ever wondered, “How can I make extra money without flipping my entire life upside down?”—you’re in the right place. This blog is packed with real, practical strategies to help you start small, dream big, and create your LUX lifestyle one step at a time.
Below are over 60 different ways how to make extra money.
How to make extra money
Start a side business, a small business or a part time business – these are ways to make extra money.
Whether you’re looking for fast cash or long-term side income, here are realistic, doable ideas—even if you’re starting from scratch.
1. Start a blog
Blogging is just one of the ways I make money. Just a few years ago I never thought it would be possible to make money from blogging. You can start blogging very easily and you can start your blog for as low as $2.75 per month and a domain for as little as $22.95 per year. Blogging can make money through affiliate marketing, selling a digital product, google ads and much more!
2. Answer surveys
Survey companies I recommend as one of the ways to make extra money online include Askable and Pure Profile. They’re free to join and free to use! You get paid to answer surveys and play games. I’ve been paid between 50 cents and $89 a survey, last year I earnt $571 from surveys or games while waiting in the school pickup line or waiting for appointments, small pockets of time that arn’t too noticeable! Just check they are available in your country. Sign up to PURE PROFILE HERE
3. Maintain yards, Mowing Lawns
You can make money by mowing lawns, killing and removing weeds, cleaning gutters, raking leaves, pruning, gardening and lots more. This is a task that many homeowners do not like to do or don’t know how to do, so it is something that they hire others to do. You could ask around on your street so you don’t have to travel or you could drop flyers and door knock. Ask around, round a suburb with older people that may not be up to doing it themselves anymore – get creative!
4. House sit
Housesitting has become more popular these days. There are many websites out there for housesitting.
5. Walk dogs and/or pet sit for extra money
If you love animals, then you may want to look into this. With this job, you may be going over to your client’s home to check in a few times a day, you may be staying at their house, or the animals may be staying with you. Last year I charged $50 a night to dog sit, in my own home. The first time we had a dog stay with us for the weekend the kids said it was the best weekend ever! How could we not continue doing it? You could do it one weekend a month and earn an extra $150 per month just by hanging out with a furry friend!
6. Pet Grooming
Another side business related to animals, but it can be a good one. You could start a mobile pet grooming business where you go directly to the pets. Check in your area what licensing you might need.
7. Freecash
This is a website that allows you to make extra money at home by playing games, doing surveys, and completing other tasks. The money that you earn on Freecash can be withdrawn through PayPal, crypto, and a range of gift cards as well. Withdrawals are starting from $0.25. You can sign up for Freecash here.
8. Become an Uber driver
Spend your spare time by driving others around.
9. Babysit
When I was pregnant with my third child, I was making $20 an hour babysitting for a local single mum at night, it was perfect as my husband would bath and put our 2 boys to bed and I’d work 6-9. This was a years ago now! I babysat maybe 2-3 nights a week, which equalled $120-$180 a week. If you have any special skills or provide extra work, such as cleaning up around the house, teaching the child how to speak another language, picking up the child after activities for example, you will most likely be able to charge more than $20 an hour. I’ve heard that babysitters this day typically earn around $20 to $40 an hour. You can find jobs in local Facebook groups, or google babysitting websites in your area.
Another idea – after school care – pick up a couple more kids from school pickup and babysit them until parents finish work! Easy way to make extra money!
